International Puzzle Parley
on July 13

ROCHESTER, NY—Professional jigsaw puzzle-cutters, scholars, and collectors from across the globe will share their knowledge and demonstrate their skill at a Puzzle Parley at The Strong museum on Friday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event, held in conjunction with the Association for Games and Puzzles International Convention in Rochester from July 12–15, will also include meet-and-greets and family activities.

“Puzzle parleys are a place for professional puzzle-cutters, fans, collectors, and enthusiasts to gather and to share their passion,” says Nic Ricketts, The Strong’s curator of board games. “The Strong is home to one of the most comprehensive puzzle collections in the world—including many that the museum acquired from Anne D. Williams, one of the foremost puzzle experts—so it only makes sense to showcase the elite skill of these puzzle-cutters for the museum’s guests and members.”

Guests can also meet John Stokes, a master craftsman and creator of the 100 Puzzles Project. For the project, Stokes is attempting to create and auction 100 puzzles. Guests can take inspiration and design their own puzzle to take home.

“The parleys have grown over time,” says Williams, one of the parley’s organizers, “from a gathering of 22 puzzle cutters in a private home in 1994 to what in 2018 will be a gathering of about a hundred puzzle collectors, enthusiasts, cutters, suppliers, and researchers.”

Guests can learn more about puzzles at the Jigsaw Puzzles: Putting it all Together exhibit and view dozens of puzzle examples—from one of the first puzzles made in the late 1700s to modern examples featuring pop culture icons—and the tools used to create them.

The Puzzle Parley and Jigsaw Puzzles: Putting it All Together exhibit are included with general museum admission.

Jigsaw Puzzles: Putting it All Together remains on view through October 12, 2018.
