Safety and Security

Safety and Security

Let’s help everyone have fun! The Strong encourages learning, creativity, and discovery through play in a safe and inclusive environment. The museum reserves the right to refuse service or revoke access to anyone jeopardizing this safe environment as outlined in our Play Nice Policy.

Adult Supervision

Children age 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult while in the museum.

Admissions Security

All guests and their personal items (bags, etc.) must pass through our touchless weapons detection system at the museum entrance. Strollers are screened separately. To streamline this process, guests should remove bags from strollers. Children can remain in the stroller during the screening process.

Secure Your Belongings

The museum offers an enclosed parking garage connected to the museum. It is recommended guests keep coats and other items you wish to store in your locked vehicle.

A limited number of lockers are available for rent. Please do not leave bags or other belongings unattended while in the museum.

Safety Equipment

The museum provides AED (automated external defibrillator) units at the main entrance, business entrance, ropes course, and by the second-floor family restrooms. Security staff, as well as select Guest Services staff, are trained in first aid and CPR.

Prohibited Items and Actions

In addition to the museum’s Play Nice Policy, the following items and actions are not permitted inside the museum or on museum grounds.

  • Weapons or firearms including toy replicas
  • Explosives or flammables
  • Knives, sharp objects, or laser pointers
  • Pepper spray, mace, or other irritants

Prohibited Actions

  • Unauthorized distribution of pamphlets or any other literature is not allowed inside the museum or on museum grounds.
  • The Strong is a smoke-free campus. No smoking or vaping is allowed inside the museum or on museum grounds.
  • Flash photography is prohibited, and still and video images may not be reproduced for commercial use in any form without the express written consent of The Strong.

Lost and Found

If you have left an item behind during your visit, please call security Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 585-410-6300.

Security will retain lost and found items for 30 days before donating them to other local charities.

Service Animals

The Strong welcomes service dogs. Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. A person with a disability may be asked to remove their service animal from the premises if: (1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or (2) the dog is not housebroken.

Pets, comfort or therapy animals, and emotional support animals are not permitted on museum property.

No persons are permitted to leave an animal unattended or in a vehicle on museum property.
