Go Greyhound Display Opens
at The Strong Museum on July 1

Journey through time and explore America’s fondness for leisure travel at the new Go Greyhound display opening at The Strong museum on July 1. See dozens of bus-related artifacts and transportation playthings donated to the museum by Harvey Simmons of Canandaigua, New York, including a selection of bus models from major U.S. and international companies, such as Louis Marx and Company, Mattel, LineMark from Japan, and Matchbox from England.

“The Go Greyhound display represents not just the play and playthings of youngsters enthralled by bus transportation, but it also signifies American’s fondness for leisure travel and taking vacations,” says Chris Bensch, The Strong’s vice president for collections.

Among the dozens of models, the display includes a replica of the 1964 Greyhound Glide-a-Ride, which transported passengers during the World’s Fair in New York. Greyhound operated a fleet of these tractor trains for the event, and passengers could ride for 25 cents. The toy version—produced in Japan and sold in the United States by the Lowell Company—includes a friction motor to propel it.

Go Greyhound will be on display at the museum through September. The display is included with general museum admission fees.
