Balloons Around the World
at The Strong Museum
October 1

Watch as a whimsical, original balloon sculpture is built at The Strong® museum during Balloons Around the World on Wednesday, October 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Marvel at local balloon artists Larry Moss and Kelly Cheatle of Airigami as they create a court jester sitting on a regal throne as a prelude to the opening of the LEGO Castle Adventure® exhibit on October 4.

Now in its 15th year, Balloons Around the World invites hundreds of balloon sculptors to donate their time and talents as part of an international celebration of balloon artistry. Some artists participate by creating personal balloon figures like dogs and flowers, but many use the day as an opportunity to collaborate on large-scale, multi-balloon sculptures for display in public places such as shopping malls, libraries, and museums.

Several volunteer artists are expected to help Moss and Cheatle build this year’s sculpture at The Strong. This is the fourth year Moss and Cheatle selected the museum to be the site of their Balloons Around the World masterpiece. “Our work is about creating an installation for everyone in the community to look at and enjoy. I think it’s a perfect fit for the museum. For me, sculpting is play,” says Moss. The balloon sculpture at The Strong will remain on view for as long as the balloons stay inflated.

All museum Balloons Around the World activities are included with general museum admission fees.
