For Immediate Release
Woodbury School at The Strong®
Adds Early Kindergarten Program
2014–2015 Preschool and Early Kindergarten
Enrollment Begins December 1
The Strong® is pleased to announce that its Woodbury School has added early kindergarten options to its popular, existing preschool programs. Because of growing interest in the school and demand from parents for alternatives to traditional kindergarten tracks, Woodbury School (known previously as Woodbury Preschool) will now offer project-based, early-kindergarten curriculum for four- and five-year-olds. This will be the only half-day program of its kind available to five-year-olds in the Rochester area, and children may now have the benefit of attending Woodbury School for up to three years. The early kindergarten program will be available on a two-, three-, or five-day-a-week schedule and will support children’s emerging social, math, and science skills through small group extensions of project work.
Woodbury School will accept enrollment applications on a first-come, first-served basis beginning December 1, 2013 for both preschool and early kindergarten programs for the 2014–2015 school year. Eligible preschool students must be three or four years old on or before December 1, 2014. Eligible early kindergarten students must be four or five years old on or before December 1, 2014.
At Woodbury School, all children learn and develop in playful activities set among The Strong’s dynamic, hand-on museum exhibits. Specially designed classrooms, set apart from the museum galleries, provide a familiar, comfortable, and manageable environment for students. Weather permitting, children also enjoy experiences in a secure outdoor play space designed for the exclusive use of the school. Children in the early kindergarten program have opportunities for enhanced literacy and math connections to project work.
Woodbury School is Reggio Emilia-inspired and responsive to the interests of the children in the class. Teachers and students work together to plan the curriculum and create projects. Guided by teachers who facilitate their explorations, children delve deeply into topics that fascinate and stimulate learning. Small and large group activities involve art, music, cooperative games, movement, pre-reading, math, and other age-appropriate experiences.
How to apply: Applications can be requested by phone at 585-263-2700, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. or downloaded anytime at museumofplay.org/education/woodbury-school beginning December 1. Enrollment applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable $45 application fee. Completed applications may be submitted by mail (Woodbury School at The Strong, One Manhattan Square, Rochester, NY14607) or dropped off during museum hours at the museum admissions desk. A limited number of needs-based partial scholarships are available.
