The Strong offers behind-the-scenes experiences and unforgettable educational opportunities for adults age 55 and older. Through Museum Mondays for Seniors, individuals and groups can receive discounted admission to the museum, along with a guided tour of one of The Strong’s exhibits or admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden. The Strong offers additional group programs through its Lifelong Learning: Museum Experiences for Adults program. These in-depth experiences include behind-the-scenes exploration of the museum’s archives, collections, and butterfly garden.

National Toy Hall of Fame Guided Tour

Did you know that the Slinky was not originally supposed to be a toy? Why was Twister nearly pulled from production just before it became a national sensation? Enjoy a guided tour beginning at 11:30 a.m. through the Toy Halls of Fame exhibit and discover the stories behind the iconic toys inducted into The Strong’s National Toy Hall of Fame. This experience includes general admission to explore the museum before or after the guided tour.

Explore nature play, a favorite pastime of museum founder Margaret Woodbury Strong. This experience includes general museum admission to The Strong museum plus time to stroll Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden—a lush, indoor garden with hundreds of tropical butterflies. Now through January 6, get up close to hundreds of blue morpho butterflies as they land on holiday ornaments during Morpho Magic.

Tickets are required and may be purchased online or at the admissions desk. Photo ID is required at the time of the visit. Tickets are non-refundable. Limited parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis in the museum’s parking garage. Beginning March 1, parking is $5 for non-members and free for current museum members. The garage can be accessed from Howell Street on the south side of the museum. Lifelong Learning: Group Experiences for Adults Age 55 and Older

The Strong offers behind-the-scenes experiences and unforgettable educational opportunities for lifelong learners amid the museum’s world-class collections, interactive exhibit spaces, and indoor and outdoor gardens. These playful experiences are designed to accommodate a range of interests and physical abilities.

Butterfly Talk

Enjoy a classroom-style talk with The Strong’s museum biologist, who will provide fascinating facts and information about butterflies. Then join a guided tour of Upstate New York’s only year-round, indoor butterfly garden. Stroll among lush, tropical foliage and flowers. Encounter hundreds of exotic butterflies from around the world. Participate in a butterfly release when newly emerged butterflies are released into free flight. Spend the remainder of your time on your own exploring the museum.

Collector’s Corner: Margaret Woodbury Strong

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn about the life and dreams of one of Rochester’s foremost collectors. Who was Margaret Woodbury Strong, and how did her life and collections inspire The Strong museum? A museum archivist introduces you to the museum’s founder through documents, photographs, and other archival materials. Discover how Margaret set the wheels in motion for what would become the world’s largest collection of toys, dolls, board games, video games, and other historic materials related to play at The Strong—the largest museum in the world dedicated to the study and exploration of play.
