The Strong National Museum of Play offers a variety of camp experiences designed to engage curious minds and active bodies. Whether it’s the excitement of summer or the much-needed break during the school year, The Strong’s museum-based camps invite children to discover, create, and explore through the power of play.
Play and learning go hand in hand as students conceptualize, design, and create an original computer game. Led by Dennis McCorry, Digital Games Hub Coordinator at the Rochester Institute of Technology MAGIC Center, children will learn about game design and rules, visual art and animation, and audio to create their game.

Our popular five-week summer camp program immerses children entering 2nd through 4th grades in a series of themed experiences:
The Strong National Museum of Play’s It’s Alive summer camp invites kids to discover the wonders of the natural world through play! Campers will explore the vibrant Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden, observe aquatic life up close at the Rainbow Reef aquarium, and meet real animals—such as tortoises, geckos, and snakes. Through hands-on activities, creative exploration, and guided adventures with the museum’s biologist, children will learn about plants and pollinators, arthropods, ocean life, reptiles, and rainforests.
At The Strong National Museum of Play’s Museum Makers camp, campers step into the role of junior exhibit designers and curators. Through hands-on creation, behind-the-scenes experiences, and playful exploration of the museum, kids will discover how exhibits are imagined, designed, and brought to life, and how artifacts are cared for. Campers will work together to plan and build their own mini-exhibits and host a Museum Makers Showcase for peers and families.
The Strong National Museum of Play hosts an engaging STEAM week summer camp that combines the thrill of discovery with hands-on learning. Designed for curious minds, this camp immerses kids in science, technology, engineering, and arts through interactive activities and exhibits. Participants can enjoy an Inventor’s Workshop, create unique art, get messy with slime-making and volcanoes, and solve mysteries.
The Strong National Museum of Play’s Game Makers camp invites campers to explore the creative process behind their favorite games. Throughout the week, campers will brainstorm imaginative ideas, design game components, and experiment with different types of games, including tabletop games and escape room–style challenges. Guided by teachers and museum creators, campers will design their own games and test each other’s creations. On the final day, campers will host a Game Makers Expo, showcasing designs for peers and families.
Campers become heroes, explorers, and legends across time and place! Legends Through Time is an action-packed week of roleplay, movement, and creative problem-solving. Each day transports campers to a new immersive adventure—training as superheroes, traveling through history, solving mysteries, conquering medieval quests, and exploring the Wild West. Through hands-on crafts, fitness-based challenges, and collaborative storytelling, campers stay active while building confidence, teamwork, and creativity.
