ROCHESTER, NY—Today, The Strong National Museum of Play announced that its high-adventure ropes course will be named the Ralph Wilson Skyline Climb, in honor of the legacy of Ralph Wilson and his lifetime commitment to improving the quality of life in Western New York.
“Ralph Wilson was dedicated to encouraging active lifestyles, supporting children and working families, pushing for economic development, and supporting non-profits. He was also a passionate advocate for youth sports and physical play,” said Steve Dubnik, president and CEO of The Strong. “Naming the museum’s ropes course in his honor is a fitting tribute to his legacy—and for us, a meaningful way to thank Ralph and Mary Wilson for their many years of support and advocacy.”
In 2021, The Strong announced a transformational $5 million gift and significant annual support from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation to help fund the museum’s recent 90,000 square foot expansion and ongoing operations. The ropes course is a key element of the expansion and central to the museum’s play mission, bringing physical play to the forefront— and encouraging kids and people of all ages to test their strength, balance, courage, and grit.
“Ralph spent his entire life being active, enjoying sports and always had a playful and adventurous spirit. He would love to see these youth push their comfort level and build their strength and confidence through the Ralph Wilson Skyline Climb,” said Mary Wilson, life trustee, Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation.
