Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at The Strong. Kick-off the celebration with special presentations on May 1 by Children’s Learning and Discovery of Rochester (ChildROC), including Chinese calligraphy demonstrations, performances with traditional Chinese instruments, bilingual Chinese and English storytimes, and demonstrations of Chinese folk dance.
Then, on weekdays all month long, enjoy special craft activities with kites:
May 3 to 7: Create a kite inspired by the Japanese Koinobori (flying carp kite) to celebrate Japan’s Children’s Day.
May 10 to 14: Make a paper bird kite inspired by bird kites from China and the Maori of New Zealand.
May 17 to 21: Design a kite inspired by the Malaysian moon kite.
May 24 to 28: Create a paper bag kite inspired by traditional long-tailed kites of China and Bali.
All activities are included with general museum admission fees.
