Are you extending memberships due to the COVID19 closure?

All memberships that were active when the museum closed on March 13 have been automatically extended three months. Members may pick up a new card the next time you visit the museum.

I do not intend to use my membership when the museum reopens, can I get a refund or put the membership on hold?

Unfortunately, memberships are not refundable, and we are unable to place memberships on hold. Please understand that we are just as disappointed with the museum’s closure as you are, and we are doing our very best to navigate this unprecedented situation. Throughout the museum’s temporary closure, we expect earned income to be down 98%. That means at least $2.1 million in lost revenue, and likely much more. As a not-for-profit museum that depends on this revenue to provide playful exhibits, educational programming, and more for our community—this loss dramatically impacts our ability to operate. Continuing to extend membership expiration dates was not financially possible.

We appreciate your understanding and support during these extraordinary times, and we look forward to welcoming families like yours back to the museum soon to play and create new experiences that make The Strong such a special place.

Parking Questions

Will members have to pay for parking?

Basic-level memberships include six (6) free parking validations. After all validations are used, members pay $5 to park. Benefactor-level and other high-level members receive 12 parking validations. When entering the garage, take a parking ticket from the gate kiosk. Do not attempt to scan your membership card. Bring the parking ticket to the museum admissons desk or quick scan podium to get validated. Do not lose your ticket. You need it to exit the garage. 

Will the museum have a free surface lot in addition to the parking garage?

No, as of October 15, 2019 the only parking at the museum will be in the garage. The existing surface lots will become construction zones for a mix of housing and retail businesses. Other parking options around the city may be available, but the member parking benefit will only be valid at The Strong’s garage.

Will I receive parking validations to use in the garage when I purchase my membership?

Members will not receive physical vouchers but will be able to validate parking on-site during their visit. They should visit the admissions desk or podiums A and B to receive validation.

Add-a-Guest Upgrade Questions

What is the Add-a-Guest feature?

This upgrade features allows a member to bring a different guest each time they visit the museum. The member must accompany the guest. Limit one Add-a-Guest per membership and one use per day.

Do the adult members named on the membership need to be present to use the Add-a-Guest?

The Add-a-Guest can be used whenever a member is present. As we consider your children members, a guest (i.e., a babysitter) can accompany them to the museum using the Add-a-Guest feature without the named adults present. The guest accompanying your children must present your membership card showing you have Add-a-Guest at the time of admission.

Can my babysitter use the Add-a-Guest to bring my kids to the museum when I can't attend?

Yes. If you have Add-a-Guest, it will be printed on the named member's membership card. The babysitter can bring your membership card and your kids to the museum and receive free member admission. The membership card is required to receive member admission and the Add-a-Guest feature may only be used once per day.

Will I receive a separate card with the Add-a-Guest feature?

No, there isn't a separate card for Add-a-Guest. The members named on the membership will have Add-a-Guest printed on their membership card. If you are unable to visit but would like to send your babysitter to the museum with your kids, give your membership card to your babysitter and they will receive free member admission. The Add-a-Guest feature may only be used once per day.

I would like to purchase the Add-a-Guest feature for my current membership, can I do it online?

Unfortunately, we are unable to sell just the Add-a-Guest feature online. This feature can be quickly purchased at the admissions desk when you visit. Or, you can call the membership office at 585-263-2700 during our regular office hours (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and we can take your order over the phone. We apologize for the inconvenience.  

Membership Purchase and Renewal Questions

Can I renew a membership online?

Yes, click the 'Renew Your Membership' button on the main membership page. The Strong recently switched to a new membership database and all members were issued new ID numbers. In order to use this online renewal form, you need the new 14-digit membership ID number associated with your membership. If you do not have your new ID number, please contact the membership office at info@museumofplay.org and we would be happy to assist you. The number on your current membership card will not work.

If I renew before the month my membership expires, will I lose any time on the renewed membership?

If you renew early, we will add one year to your existing membership. You will not lose any time. You will receive the full 12 months of membership you purchased. Your parking validations will be reset when you renew and any unused validations will be lost. If you do not want to lose your validations, please renew after you have used all of your validations. 

If I order a membership online, can I use it right away?

Yes, the membership becomes active as soon as your payment is processed. Bring your photo ID to the front desk with the confirmation email. We will be able to and let them know you purchased a membership online. We will look up your membership record with your photo ID.

ACM Reciprocal Network Questions

What is the ACM Reciprocal Network benefit?

With this benefit, Strong museum members will receive a 50% general admission discount for up to six people at participating ACM Reciprocal Network museums. The card holder must be present with the membership card showing the ACM Reciprocal Network logo to receive discounted admission. This is an excellent benefit for families that travel often. Explore & More in East Aurora and the Sciencenter in Ithaca are the nearest ACM Reciprocal Network museums. For more information and a list of participating museums, please visit findachildrensmuseum.org. All Basic-level memberships purchased November 1, 2018 and later will include the ACM Reciprocal Network discount. 

I hold a membership to another museum with the ACM Reciprocal Network benefit. What is The Strong's reciprocal admission policy?

The Strong provides a 50% general admission discount for up to six people who show a valid membership card with the ACM Reciprocal Network logo and a photo ID. This discount may not be combined with any other discount and does not apply to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden admission. The museum will not refund admission for guests that do not have a valid membership card with ACM Reciprocal Network logo at the time of admission.

What discounts are included with the ACM Reciprocal Network benefit?

Museums participating in the ACM Reciprocal Network offer 50% off general admission for up to six (6) people. Additional visitors in your group will be asked to pay full admission. The membership cardholder must be one of the six (6) people. ID may be required.

Reciprocal privileges do not extend to discounts for gift shop or café purchases, parking, museum special events, programs, summer camps or birthday parties.

General Membership Questions

I’m a grandparent, what membership will work for me?

The Basic-level memberships will cover two named grandparents and any four children (age 18 and younger). 

I've lost my membership card, what should I do?

You can still visit the museum without your membership card. The front desk can look up your membership record using your photo ID. Please send an email to info@museumofplay.org or stop by the museum admissions desk to request a new card. Your first card reprint will be complimentary; future reprints will incur a $5 processing fee.

How long does it take to get my permanent membership card?

If you purchase your membership at the museum, you will receive your cards on the spot. If you purchase online, you can pick up your cards using the confirmation email that is sent to you. For membership sales done over the phone or through the mail, membership cards are typically mailed within 5-7 business days. We request all members bring their membership card when they visit the museum to help keep the admissions line moving. If you forget your card or you have lost your card, we will use your photo ID to look up your membership. Both adults on a membership must always present photo ID.

How do I add a child to my membership?

All Basic-level memberships include free admission for up to four children or grandchildren age 18 or younger per visit. If more than four children visit with you and you would like them included on your membership for the entire year, you can upgrade your membership for $20 at the admissions desk or by calling the membership office at 585-263-2700, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If more than four children visit with you only occasionally, it may be more economical to pay their general admission for that day ($15). Children under age 2 are always free.

What do you mean by “two named adults?”

A membership may be set up for one or two adults (age 18 or older) who reside in the member household. If only one adult lives in the household, only that adult may be listed on the membership. If you bring adults who live outside of the member household often, consider the Add-a-Guest feature (add $40 to any level). This feature allows you to bring one guest free of charge each time you visit.

My spouse will never visit; can I name someone else in his or her place?

You may if the other adult lives in the household. If the adult lives outside the member household, you will need the Add-a-Guest feature to receive free admission (add $40 to any level).

Why do I need to provide photo ID every time I visit?

We do this to protect the value of your membership. Should your card ever get lost or stolen, photo ID prevents abuse and misuse. Each adult member must provide photo identification when visiting the museum.

How do I update my contact information?

Please contact the membership office at 585-263-2700, info@museumofplay.org, or stop by the museum admissions desk with your new contact information. We will update your record accordingly.

Is membership to The Strong museum tax deductible?

The Strong is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization supported in part by membership contributions. Memberships at the Benefactor level and higher are tax deductible to the extent that the law allows. Please consult your tax advisor.

Is there a membership discount for military personnel?

The museum also offers a $5 discount on annual membership fees (any membership level) for United States active-duty military and military veteran (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, and National Guard) families who present appropriate and valid identification at the time of purchase or renewal. Identification must be current and valid based on the expiration printed on them. Please visit the museum admissions desk with your ID. Discount may not be combined with other offers.

Do you offer local employees a discount on membership?

Employees of companies that are part of the museum’s Corporate Partner Program receive a $5 discount on their membership. Please contact the membership office or your Human Resources department to find out if your company is part of this program. 

Terms and Conditions of Membership

Membership is non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be placed on hold. Fees and benefits are subject to change without notice. Membership may not be share by multiple households or used by daycare or babysitting services. Photo ID and membership cards are required at each museum visit. Name changes will incur a $5 processing fee along with proof of residency and old membership cards (limit one).
 
This membership is a revocable license for the member and permitted guests.  Members and permitted guests are subject to the rules and regulations of The Strong. Members and guests assume all risks and dangers of personal injury, property damage, and other hazards incidental or in any way related to the visit, whether occurring prior to, during, or subsequent to the visit and releases The Strong, its trustees, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates from any and all liability for same arising from the visit. The Strong reserves the right to expel from the premises any person and/or revoke the membership, without refund, of any member where the presence or conduct of the member or guest is deemed objectionable by The Strong in its sole discretion, or who fails to comply with any and all security measures and applicable laws. The Strong reserves the right to limit articles brought onto the premises, and to limit large bags and similar items. Flash photography is prohibited; and still and video images may not be reproduced for commercial use without written consent from The Strong.

The Strong manages Members’ personal information in accordance with applicable law. The Strong may use Members’ personal information to provide goods and services, research, and send certain marketing and other materials of The Strong to Members.
