Where would we be without Valentines? In the 19th century, Valentine’s Day could bring elaborate cards drenched in sentiment or “Vinegar Valentines” filled with insults. While printing and the post office were changing the physical shape and look of Valentines, romantic ideals were developing new forms as well.
