In partnership with the Rochester Area Community Foundation and Greater Rochester Martin Luther King Jr. Commission, The Strong is pleased to offer free admission and parking in honor of Juneteenth. Enjoy performances and activities promoting and cultivating the knowledge and appreciation of Black history and culture.
Listen to stories of beautiful, vibrant, and diverse people passed down through generations―including stories of the earliest celebrants of Juneteenth—with the Blackstorytelling League of Rochester. Also, enjoy performances from Garth Fagan Dance, Womba Africa, and Miss Sweet Potato Pie. Meet local author Nykki Matthews, author of The Truth About Me, and get inspired by local Black-owned businesses, such as Hive Creative Works, Boundless Connections, Conkey Cruisers, and Sugary Delights. Throughout the day, discover ways that Black history has contributed to the history of play with a special artifact tour.
Registration in advance is recommended.
Become a champion for play and help make a difference in the lives of the children and families who play, learn, and grow with The Strong.
When children pretend, they’re using their imaginations to move beyond the bounds of reality. A stick can be a magic wand. A sock can be a puppet. A small child can be a superhero.
Visit a highly interactive, collections-based museum devoted to the history and exploration of play.
