Pure Nonsense! Read Across America Weekend
at the National Museum of Play® March 5 & 6

Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday and have silly fun with stories, rhymes, and games during Pure Nonsense! Read Across America Weekend at the National Museum of Play at The Strong on Saturday, March 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, March 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. The weekend events are part of Read Across America, a national program sponsored annually by the National Education Association to encourage reading. (The program takes place annually on or near Dr. Seuss’s birthday, March 2.)

Join in the fun with local performance artists Jodi Beckwith and James Caito who invite you to participate in readings of classic Seuss books as well as other silly stories, rhymes, and games. Readings take place throughout the day on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Become a part of the Seuss Schloppity-Schlopp Machine and make an oversized—or undersized!—hat to take home.

Join piano player Paula Bobb for a playful concert performed on a miniature piano on Saturday and Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m. A representative from the ABVI-Goodwill will read stories written in Braille and demonstrate how Braille works using alphabet cards on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Did you know that the National Museum of Play is a mini-branch of the Monroe County Library system? Use your library card to check out some of the many wonderful titles located in book nooks throughout the galleries. Don’t have a library card? You can sign up for one at the museum’s Gelser Library desk.
