TINKERTOY®: Build Your Imagination™
Opens at National Museum of Play® February 5

Stretch your imagination, create your own inventions, and celebrate a classic toy beloved by generations (and one that’s honored in the Strong’s own National Toy Hall of Fame) at TINKERTOY: Build Your Imagination, a new, interactive exhibit at the National Museum of Play at the Strong February 5 through May 29. (Come join a TINKERTOY build-a-thon on opening day, Saturday, February 5.)

Giant replicas of the classic wooden construction set form a colorful backdrop for nine unique activity stations that explore contemporary topics like renewable energy and clean water technology. There’s even a walk-in size replica of a TINKERTOY canister! (The immense canister features materials that celebrate unconventional ideas and some of the world’s greatest—and strangest—inventions.)

Opportunities to build abound: A two-sided panel allows families to work independently or with a partner to create original TINKERTOY designs; a Rube Goldberg-like contraption illustrates the power of creative thinking and how simple mechanisms work; and an open play area for children ages three and older features a huge assortment of TINKTEROY pieces. Guests will also have fun filling a life-size human form with TINKERTOY hubs.

How do inventors get new ideas? Discover the concept of biomimicry—nature’s influence on design—and match real inventions with their natural inspiration; then, create an inspired design of your own. TINKERTOY activities illustrate how filtration works, and the concept of renewable energy is illustrated as guests use a kid-powered fan to test their own wind-powered TINKERTOY creations.
