November Performances at the National Museum of Play

November 11 (Veterans Day): Get Ready for The Nutcracker 

Enjoy a preview of a magical family favorite with Get Ready for The Nutcracker at the National Museum of Play at the Strong™ on Thursday, November 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day of storytelling, dance, and live music features performers from the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Rochester City Ballet. It is presented in conjunction with six upcoming performances of The Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky's beloved ballet, brought to life by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rochester City Ballet at the Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, Friday through Sunday, November 26 to 28. Get Ready for The Nutcracker is included with general museum admission fees.

November 12: Eastman School Performance

Join Eastman School of Music students for a family concert at the National Museum of Play at the Strong on Friday, November 12, at 6 p.m. (The museum is open until 8 p.m. every Friday evening,  so there is ample time to visit museum exhibits before or after the concert.) Eastman School performances are included with general museum admission fees.

November 16: Rhonda Fischer Book Reading

Children’s author Rhonda Fischer reads her book Randy Kazandy Where Are Your Glasses? at the National Museum of Play at the Strong on Tuesday, November 16 from 1:30–3:30 p.m. Fischer, a native of Rochester and graduate of Eastman School of Music, will teach guests a song and be available to autograph her book. The book reading is included with general museum admission fees.

November 22: Jack and the Beanstalk Performance

The Finger Lakes Community College Theater Department presents Jack and the Beanstalk at the National Museum of Play at the Strong on Monday, November 22 at 10:30 a.m. See all the familiar characters from the children’s classic. The performance is included with general museum admission fees.


Located in downtown Rochester, New York, the National Museum of Play® at the Strong™, is the only museum in the world devoted solely to the study of play as it illuminates cultural history.

 Museum Hours:

Monday–Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

 Admission Fees:

General admission (does not include admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden®): Adults $11; Seniors $10; Children (2–15) $9; Children younger than two free; National Museum of Play members free.

 Admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden®:

General admission fee plus $1.50 for members, $3 for nonmembers; Children under 2 free. Entry is by timed ticket only. Please call 585-263-2700 to reserve and purchase tickets.

 Parking: Free parking is available at the museum for all guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that, on high visitation days, the museum lot may reach capacity early in the day. If space is not available on site at the time of your visit, additional parking is available at neighboring municipal garages for a fee. The Strong is not responsible for fees incurred at off-site locations.
