Play Pals Opening Weekend Celebration
Featuring PBS’ Billy Kelly
at The Strong Museum
December 6 & 7

Immerse yourself in a world of pretend play and enjoy interactive, musical performances during the Play Pals Opening Weekend Celebration at The Strong museum on Saturday, December 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, December 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. The original, permanent exhibit invites guests to pose for photos in an enormous toy package, step into a life-size dollhouse, create stories at the action adventure table, and see rare artifacts from The Strong’s collections.

During opening weekend, cozy up with your pal and enjoy interactive musical performances by Billy Kelly, nationally recognized children’s performer on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Kelly combines humor and upbeat tunes in his shows, which include sing-alongs, dance-alongs, and other audience participation. His “I’m Thinking of an Animal” video series appears on PBS stations nationwide, including Rochester’s WXXI. To learn more, visit thebillykellyshow.com.

Use a little imagination and an assortment of materials—socks, spoons, yarn, popsicle sticks, felt, spark stems—to make your own play pal, a hand puppet to take home or give to a friend.

Then become part of the action as you explore Play Pals, a 4,000-square-foot exhibit that traces the evolution of dolls, action figures, toy soldiers, plush animals, and other toys of the imagination through three centuries of American history.

Play Pals is phase three of a five-phase project to transform the museum’s second floor into America at Play, a highly interactive exhibit on the history of play in America. The first phase, eGameRevolution, explores electronic games and the second phase, Game Time!, traces the history of board games and puzzles. This project is made possible in part by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services. The GUND Teddy Bear Check-Up area is generously sponsored by GUND®. All opening weekend events are included with general museum admission fees.
