The Strong Announces New Virtual Educational Offerings

Wednesdays, September 30, October 7 & 14: Virtual Animal Encounters Series

Take part in a live, educational series from the comfort of your home during the Animal Encounters Virtual Series on Wednesdays, September 30, October 7, and 14 at 11 a.m. Join museum biologist Anna Simpson for family-friendly talks showcasing the animals that live in the museum’s Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden. Take part in a live question-and-answer portion after the presentation. Each week, watch as she shares engaging facts and in-depth knowledge in themed presentations:

Animal Encounters

  • September 30: Reptiles. Find out what animals are included in the reptile family and which ones you can find at in Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden. Featured animals include a ball python, red-footed tortoise, blue-tongued skink, and crested gecko.
  • October 7: Arthropods. Discover what types of arthropods live at the museum and what makes them unique in the animal world. Featured animals include a tarantula, tailless whip scorpion, stick insect, millipede, beetles, and hissing cockroaches.
  • October 14: Animal Diets. Learn about the different types of animal diets and find out how the animals get food in their natural habitats. Featured animals include a snake, millipede, tree frogs, and scorpion.

Tickets are $30 for all three programs for non-members and are available here. Museum members receive a $5 discount. Tickets are not refundable. Featured animals subject to change. Admission to this event is not covered by museum membership and does not include general museum or butterfly garden admission. Tuesday, October 13: Stories About the Stuff Virtual Event

What does it take for a toy to earn its way into the National Toy Hall of Fame? Why do some toys start as fads and wind up being timeless? Join the museum’s chief curator, Chris Bensch, for a live educational presentation during the Stories About the Stuff Virtual Event on Tuesday, October 13 at 4 p.m. Discover the surprising histories behind some of America’s most loved toys, including Barbie, G.I. Joe, Slinky, and more. Find out why these popular toys have what it takes to make it into The Strong’s National Toy Hall of Fame. Plus, learn about this year’s induction ceremony and how you can help get your favorite toy into the esteemed hall.

Tickets are $10 and available here. Tickets include admission to the virtual event and a question-and answer-session. Tickets are not refundable. Museum Hours: The museum’s fall hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. All guests, including members, must have a ticket to enter the museum. Learn more at museumofplay.org/play-safe.

General Admission Fees: Age 2 and older $16, under age 2 free, members free. Fees subject to change.

Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden Hours: The garden’s fall hours are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. Last entry is at 2:15 p.m.

Admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden: General Admission fee plus $4 for members, $5 for non-members, under age 2 free. Fees subject to change.

Parking: Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis in the museum’s parking garage for free now through the end of July. Parking is $5 for non-members. Members can use one of their six annual parking validations during their visit. Once all validations are used, members may park in the garage for $5.
