The Strong to Launch
Special Game To Support
Powered by Play Campaign and Ongoing Expansion Project

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK—Game on! The Strong National Museum of Play will release an original game on Wednesday, December 11 to encourage community participation in Powered by Play: A Campaign for The Strong. By playing and sharing the game, donors and advocates will become Philanthroplayers—spreading the word about The Strong’s expansion project and assisting in its goal to grow the museum’s capacity to preserve the history of play and promote play-based education.

“The Strong is nearing completion on the first phase of its transformative project as part of the larger Neighborhood of Play,” says Steve Dubnik, president and CEO of The Strong. “Now, as we enter the public-facing part of our campaign to raise $60 million and prepare for the second phase of the construction project, we are inviting the community to jump into the game, share our message, donate, and help us realize our goal. We’re thankful to Partners + Napier for helping to rally the community and carry our momentum forward.”

The original game, which will be available on December 11, will be playable on The Strong’s website at museumofplay.org/expansion-campaign. Sharing the game on social media will unlock two additional, increasingly difficult levels. All donations will go in full toward the museum’s expansion project, which includes a 90,000 square-foot expansion that will house a new welcome atrium, dynamic exhibits that examine the role of video games and technology in play, and a new, outdoor play garden. The project is expected to extend the museum’s reach to nearly one million guests yearly and have an annual economic impact of $130 million on the Rochester region.

“Rochester’s continued growth and enrichment is so important to us all, and The Strong is one of our community’s most valued and recognizable institutions,” says Aaron Newman, Founder and Executive Chairman of Cloudcheckr, Powered by Play donor, and museum trustee. “As The Strong continues to expand what it does for our community and for the hundreds of thousands that come from all over the world to enjoy its offerings each year, it’s critical for us all to show our support as Philanthroplayers and to inspire others in the community to show their support as well.”

The museum is planning to formally break ground on phase 2 later in 2020, and the entire project is expected to be completed in 2022. To learn more about the project or learn how to become a Philanthroplayer, visit museumofplay.org/expansion-campaign.
