Racquel M. Gonzales Named
Research Historian at The Strong
and Assistant Editor
of its American Journal of Play

The Strong is pleased to announce that Racquel M. Gonzales, PhD, has been hired as research historian and been named assistant editor of its peer-reviewed American Journal of Play. In this role, Gonzales researches and develops interpretive content for online and on-site museum exhibits and assists in all editing and operational aspects of the museum’s American Journal of Play.

Gonzales joined The Strong from the University of California, Irvine, where she served as a research fellow, writing consultant, and instructor in the School of Humanities. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California, a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and a PhD in visual studies from the University of California, Irvine.

Gonzales recently relocated from California and lives in Rochester.

The American Journal of Play is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary publication that serves as a forum for discussing the history, science, and culture of play. Published three times each year by The Strong museum in Rochester, New York, the Journal includes articles, interviews, and book reviews written for a broad readership that includes educators, psychologists, play therapists, sociologists, anthropologists, folklorists, historians, museum professionals, toy and game designers, policy makers, and others who consider play for a variety of reasons and from various perspectives.
