Royal Ball Weekend
at The Strong Museum
March 5 & 6

Sound the trumpets! The Queen of Play requests your presence at the Royal Ball at The Strong museum on Saturday, March 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, March 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. Come dressed in your most regal attire, meet Her Majesty the Queen, and be whisked away to a faraway land for a weekend of live music, pageantry, and dancing.

On Saturday only, enjoy Rochester Lyric Opera’s production of Little Red’s Most Unusual Day, a one-act opera for the whole family, at 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. The humorous tale tells the story of Little Red, Granny, the Wolf, and Little Red’s mother when one big misunderstanding leads to one very unusual day.

All weekend long, enjoy sprightly dance tunes and soaring melodies from Nonesuch Early Music Ensemble. Ensemble performers include Pat Hanley on recorders, gamba, portative organ and percussion instruments; John Heyer on the hurdy-gurdy, hammered dulcimer, and recorders; and Mary Durand on dulcimer and small percussion instruments.

          Also, all weekend long:

  • Embark on magical quests and be knighted by the Queen of Play.
  • Meet the and receive bejeweled gift.
  • Improve your hand-eye coordination with Nerf “archery” in Sherwood Forest.
  • Stop by Rapunzel’s Hair Salon for a courtly hairdo.
  • Enjoy a “feast” at the royal banquet table.
  • Create your own majestic attire and adornments, including crowns and family crests.
  • Try on real chainmail armor (and see how heavy it is!).

All Royal Ball activities are included with general museum admission fees.
