Create your own medieval legend in an enchanted play area filled with castles, dragons, and more. Then visit the newly opened The Lost World of Dragons exhibit. Pose for pictures with a regal red dragon, a slithering sea serpent, and the legendary wyvern.

Celebrate the joy of reading. Listen to stories and get your Storytime Club passport punched during each visit. Collect five punches and receive a free children’s book! Learn how to sign up for a Monroe County library card, check out books from the museum’s exhibits, and explore the imaginative world of stories in the Reading Adventureland exhibit. This month: Dragons and Friends. Be whisked away with fantasy stories about dragons.

The Lost World of Dragons Opening

The Lost World of Dragons Exhibit Opening Celebration

Occurs On: February 9

Be whisked off to a fantastical land when The Lost World of Dragons exhibit swoops into The Strong. Take pictures with seven moving dragons of all shapes and sizes, such as a regal red dragon, a slithering sea serpent, and the legendary wyvern. Then hop into the harness on a dragon, hold on tight, and soar on a virtual flight. If you dare, enter “Smaug’s Lair” to see his piles of gold and treasures, and take a seat on the throne. Also, explore the forge and alchemy laboratory, complete a series of mix-and-match and magnetic dragon puzzles, and draw your own dragon. Opening weekend only, meet real reptiles that have inspired stories about dragons with members of REPCO Wildlife Encounters during a special sensory-friendly presenation. (ASL interpretation will be available.). Plus, create dragon crafts, such as a Chinese dragon spinner, and help fill the dragon’s hoard of treasure by catapulting foam balls into its treasure chest.

Occurs On: February 14
Listen to story readings about love and friendship at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Practice your aim with Cupid’s arrow and move your feet at the valentine hop. Play a valentine matching game and create a work of art for your sweetheart.

Museum Mondays for Seniors: Butterfly Garden Experience

Meet history’s playful side at The Strong. This three-hour experience includes general museum admission plus entry into the museum’s Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden. Tickets are required and may be purchased online or by calling 585-263-2700. This program is for adults age 55 and older. Photo ID may be requested at check-in.
