Canstruction

Marvel at giant sculptures of heroes and villains made entirely from cans of food. Canstruction is an international charity competition that challenges architects, engineers, contractors, and students to design and build large-scale sculptures made from canned food. Don’t miss the museum shop’s annual one-day sale! During museum hours—10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—members will enjoy a 25% discount on museum shop purchases. For this day only, the shop will also offer extended hours. Members who shop between 8 and 10 a.m. and 5 and 7:30 p.m. will receive a 30% discount on purchases; non-members will receive a 15% discount. Some exclusions apply.

That’s the message Children Awaiting Parents (CAP) seeks to share at the Judge Wagner 2019 Heart Gallery—a photography display of children in need of adoptive families, on view during National Adoption Month in November. Portraits taken by volunteer photographers capture each child’s unique personality.

Museum Mondays for Seniors: Butterfly Garden Experience

Meet history’s playful side at The Strong. This three-hour experience includes general museum admission plus entry into the museum’s Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden. Tickets are required and may be purchased online or by calling 585-263-2700. This program is for adults age 55 and older. Photo ID may be requested at check-in.

Celebrate the joy of reading. Listen to stories and get your Storytime Club passport punched during each visit. Collect five punches and receive a free children’s book! Learn how to sign up for a Monroe County library card, check out books from the museum’s exhibits, and explore the imaginative world of stories in the Reading Adventureland exhibit. November 4 only, enjoy special activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Sesame Street television series. This month: Giving Thanks. Delight in tales about being thankful and showing gratitude.

In Another Galaxy

In Another Galaxy

Occurs On: November 17

Come dressed as your favorite science-fiction character to enjoy out-of-this-world activities. Meet costumed characters from the 501st Legion (Vader’s Fist) and Rebel Legion. Check out robots built by the R2-D2 Builders Club and craft your own robot, spacecraft, or lightsaber. Stop the bad guys on the Nerf Blaster Range, try your hand at vintage science-fiction arcade games, and check out sci-fi books using your Monroe Country Library System card. Be sure to stop by the museum shop to pick up toys, games, and costumes themed around favorite science-fiction characters. Parent Information Night

Woodbury School Parent Information Night

Occurs On: November 20

Learn about the preschool and early kindergarten programs at Woodbury School during the Parent Information Night. Woodbury School’s unique setting at The Strong museum provides countless opportunities for playful learning. Enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year begins December 2. Bruce Gang

#BruceGang Takeover at The Strong

Occurs On: November 22

Dance, play, and create during the #BruceGang Takeover at The Strong. Be inspired by Chaz Bruce—choreographer, dancer, teacher, and TikTok superstar—to create your own music videos at the museum! Chaz has choreographed multiple national award-winning hip-hop routines for teams throughout New York and is currently the Western New York Director of the New York Institute of Dance Education. His TikTok following is more than 2.3 million worldwide. Come experience Chaz’s enthusiasm and positive message of empowerment and creativity!

All guests age 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
