There’s no denying it! The Barbie doll is America’s favorite.
A new, fashionably fabulous second-floor display features more than 500 Barbie dolls and a wide assortment of her friend and family dolls. Other fashion dolls make guest appearances, too.
Learn the story behind the creation of the first Barbie doll and see how she accessorized, traveled, and evolved through the last five decades. A bevy of some of the earliest Barbie dolls in their classic black-and-white striped bathing suits and signature pony tails will greet you.
See examples of Barbie’s airplanes, boats, cars, campers, and motorcycles. Fans can also learn about many of her one hundred-plus careers, including teacher, business executive, NASCAR driver, astronaut, and doctor.
Also on view is a Bild Lilli doll, the German fashion doll that Mattel co-founder Ruth Handler used as a model for the company’s first Barbie doll (named after Handler’s daughter, Barbara).
Kids can enter a gigantic doll house to play dress-up, just like they do with their own Barbie dolls.
