Science Fun with Sid Columbus Day Weekend
October 10–12
at The Strong® Museum

Explore the new Sid the Science Kid: The Super-Duper Exhibit! and participate in science-themed activities during Columbus Day weekend at The Strong museum on Saturday, October 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, October 11, from 1 to 4 p.m.; and Monday, October 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy crafts, hands-on play stations, interactive performances, and more.

All weekend long, meet and take photos with Sid the Science Kid. Create your own science journal—just like Sid’s—and stop by science stations to experiment with magnets, use magnifying glasses, build catapults, and more.

Watch as Michael Fantauzzo (StickTrickDominoDude) and Chris Wright (xXDominoMasterXx) create a kinetic-art and chain-reaction machine using blocks, marbles, popsicle sticks, and more. Fantauzzo and Wright were two of only 15 participants from around the world who worked together to build the Incredible Science Machine at Michigan Science Center last July. The machine took nine days to construct and broke a North American record by toppling more than 200,000 dominoes.

Learn about wildlife conservation awareness and see live native and exotic animals during a 1 p.m. presentation on Saturday and Sunday by The Wildlife Defenders of Canandaigua, a wildlife education outreach group run by Bridges for Brain Injury Inc. Stop by a 4-H exploration station hosted by the members of the Cornell Cooperative Extension.

On Sunday at 1:30 and 3 p.m. only, enjoy a science-themed musical performance by Eastman School students and faculty and participate in interactive acoustic presentations to learn about the physics of sound. On Monday at 1 p.m. only, watch Larry Moss from Airigami construct a balloon mousetrap to solve the problem of a mouse on the loose.

And don’t forget to explore Sid the Science Kid: The Super-Duper Exhibit! Investigate everyday science questions around Sid’s home, and at school—in the Super Fab Lab and on the playground. Use scientific tools and thinking to learn about simple machines, the laws of motion, magnetism, air power, and the five senses.

All Columbus Day Weekend activities are included with general museum admission fees.

Sid the Science Kid: The Super-Duper Exhibit! created by The Magic House® in collaboration with The Jim Henson Company.
