Brazilian Folktales
at The Strong Museum
May 2

Enjoy enchanting Brazilian folktales performed live on stage at The Strong museum by the Genesee Community College Forum Players Theatre Ensemble on Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. After each performance, attend a question and answer session and meet the actors to learn about their creative process.

“We are excited to bring our production to The Strong and to share the Brazilian culture with museum guests,” says The Forum Player’s Director Norm Gayford. “Our performances are a collection of diverse, authentic Brazilian folktales that explore ancient wisdom, culture, and humor through the antics of fierce and funny animals, including a jaguar, turtle, monkey, goat, and many others.”

The script for the play was adapted from the book Brazilian Folk Tales by Livia de Almeida and Ana Portella, and it presents a rich collection of traditional Brazilian stories, all drawing on the varied cultural traditions of the people who make up the South American nation. The performance includes colorful costumes, dance, and traditional music.

Eastman School of Music’s Ossia New Music group—a student-run organization—will also perform folktale-inspired contemporary music at noon and 2 p.m.
