January 20 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)
Honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by Celebrating Diversity at
The Strong National Museum of Play on Monday, January 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Celebrate creative expression through modern dance, interactive theater experiences, a special comic book display, crafts, and more.
Enjoy original dance at 11 a.m. from A Moving Experience, the Arc of Monroe County’s modern dance troupe. A Moving Experience focuses on inclusion and diversity by embracing the individuality of its dancers and through performances about themes such as peace and love.
At 1 and 2:30 p.m., take part in interactive shows by Art Force Five—Alfred University’s Drawn to Diversity group—and learn how creativity can assist in problem-solving and in promoting equality. Participants receive an Art Force Five badge.
Also, view a special, one-day-only comic book display by Art Force Five that illustrates America’s journey toward civil rights. The display includes more than 25 classic comics and tackles questions such as, “Was Superman created to fight bullies?” and “Was Marvel’s Black Panther part of the Black Panther party?”
