Deadline to Enter National Museum of Play’s
America at Play: Play Stories Video Contest
Extended to April 15
ROCHESTER, New York—The deadline to enter the National Museum of Play’s America at Play: Play Stories Video Contest has been extended to Friday, April 15. Don’t miss the chance to share treasured memories about playing with friends, win fabulous prizes, and contribute to the development of a major museum exhibit, America at Play, scheduled for installation on the museum’s second floor beginning in 2012. Submit a two-minute video showcasing your fondest play memories by midnight, April 15!
Here’s how to enter the contest:
Visit http://www.museumofplay.org/video-project to read contest eligibility requirements and create an account. Upload or record your video entry. Create a video to upload or record a video on the site via webcam (no more than two minutes long) that captures fond memories of playing with friends either in the past or the present. You may wish to reminisce on camera about a playful experience or provide footage of yourself as a child. Interviews with others are also acceptable. Your submission may include additional images, videos, props, or other original materials. Entries must be received by midnight, April 15, 2011. Vote for your favorite videos, comment on entries, and share videos on Facebook and Twitter.
Three winners will be selected on the basis of online votes and a fourth, special Curators’ Choice prize determined by a panel of National Museum of Play experts, will also be awarded.
Winning prizes are:
First prize: Flip UltraHD 8 GB video camera
Second Prize: Flip UltraHD 4 GB video camera
Third Prize: $75 gift certificate to amazon.com
Curators’ Choice: Flip UltraHD 8 GB video camera
The America at Play exhibit will include a sweeping overview of four centuries of play in America. Rich in objects from the museum’s renowned collections, and complemented by hands-on activities, America at Play will tell the story of the way that play has changed, stayed the same, and affected us all—adults and children alike. Selected videos from the America at Play: Play Stories Video Contest may be used in this exhibit.
Museum Hours: Monday–Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
Admission Fees: General Admission (does not include admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden®): Adults $12; Seniors $11; Children (2–15) $10; Children younger than two free; museum members free.
Admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden®: General Admission fee plus $2 for members, $4 for nonmembers; Children under 2 free. Entry is by timed ticket only. Please call 585-263-2700 to reserve and purchase tickets.
Parking: Free parking is available at the museum for all guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that, on high visitation days, the museum lot may reach capacity early in the day. If space is not available on site at the time of your visit, additional parking is available at neighboring municipal garages for a fee. The Strong is not responsible for fees incurred at off-site locations.
