In 1971, Nutting Associates released Computer Space, the world's first coin-operated video arcade game. It was followed swiftly by landmark games such as Atari's Pong and Breakout. Donkey Kong is one of the most famous games developed by Nintendo, and is an early example of the platform genre. It was the first game designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and included the protagonist "Jumpman," who would later go on to become Miyamoto's most famous character, Mario. Donkey Kong has since been ported onto various Nintendo consoles and portable game systems. The game spawned two direct sequels - Donkey Kong Jr. and Donkey Kong 3 - as well as later spin-offs such as Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Konga.
