Quotation Marks—Enclosing a multiword phrase in quotation marks tells the search engine to list only sites that contain those words in that exact order.

The following must appear in ALL CAPS and with a space on each side.

AND—Indicates that the records found must contain all the words joined by the AND operator. For example, to find objects that contain the words wizard, oz, and movie, enter wizard AND oz AND movie.

OR—Records found must contain at least one of the words joined by OR. For example, to find objects that contain the word dog or the word puppy, enter dog OR puppy.

AND NOT—Indicates that the records found cannot contain the word that follows the term AND NOT. For example, to find objects that contain the word pets but not the word dogs, enter pets AND NOT dogs.

Lego Friends

video game

Whether you follow a design and instructions, or make your own creation, LEGO blocks have stimulated imaginations in children and adults since their introduction in 1958. These simple bricks join together to form millions of combinations, and have left a significant impression in popular culture and the way we play. Thanks to television and video games, users are not limited in the ways they choose to interact with LEGO pieces; they can build, control characters, and take part in interactive stories without ever leaving the couch. Electronic Arts released the first LEGO video game in 1997. Entitled "LEGO Island," this computer game allowed players to explore a world made entirely out of LEGO pieces and complete different missions. "LEGO Island" received excellent reviews and led to the creation of two sequels, as well as many more LEGO games. Along with original worlds and storylines, LEGO also released video games that tied into popular franchises, such as "Harry Potter," "Star Wars," and "Lord of the Rings." In 1999, LEGO Media released "LEGO Friends" for Windows computers. Developed specifically for young girls, this computer game revolves around a girl band competing to win their high school talent show. The game gives players the opportunity to create their own music and dance routines, and includes a printable scrapbook. "LEGO Friends" the video game did not fare well commercially, and the LEGO Friends brand disappeared until 2012 when LEGO launched the LEGO Friends construction sets. These proved controversial; many people claimed that LEGO was giving in to gender stereotypes by releasing a girl-specific line of toys that included sets titled "Butterfly Beauty Shop," "Stephanie’s Outdoor Bakery," and "Emma’s Fashion Design Studio." Regardless of the critics, LEGO released another LEGO Friends video game in 2013 for the Nintendo DS. In 1998, the National Toy Hall of Fame, calling the blocks "an ideal toy," inducted LEGO into its ranks. Two years later, "Fortune Magazine" named the LEGO brick "Toy of the Century." Thanks to computer animation, LEGO figurines appear in multiple television series, as well as a full-length movie. More than 50 years after its initial release, LEGO’s interlocking plastic block remains popular and continues to evolve.
