Search Tips

Quotation Marks—Enclosing a multiword phrase in quotation marks tells the search engine to list only sites that contain those words in that exact order.

The following must appear in ALL CAPS and with a space on each side.

AND—Indicates that the records found must contain all the words joined by the AND operator. For example, to find objects that contain the words wizard, oz, and movie, enter wizard AND oz AND movie.

OR—Records found must contain at least one of the words joined by OR. For example, to find objects that contain the word dog or the word puppy, enter dog OR puppy.

AND NOT—Indicates that the records found cannot contain the word that follows the term AND NOT. For example, to find objects that contain the word pets but not the word dogs, enter pets AND NOT dogs.

miniature room

ulie Conner’s hobby of making miniature rooms began long ago when she unpacked her childhood Barbie dolls and set up rooms or scenarios for them. Eventually, Conner set Barbie dolls, Barbie-sized furniture, accessories, and repurposed household items to create miniature versions of the rooms of her home--living room, kitchen, bedrooms, and even the garage, laundry room, and patio. After completing these rooms, she branched out to create several unusual stores and shops--not the typical subjects of most miniaturists and not easy to furnish as most industries catering to miniaturists produce home furnishings rather than furnishings for public spaces. Conner added antique and art shops, consignment shops, a grocery market, Western goods store, a resale store, and others. The lack of ready-made furnishings forced Conner to be creative. Her miniature rooms are filled with items that have no relation to dolls, miniatures, or play: many of the 2,500 furnishings her rooms are repurposed items. Most items she found in second-hand stores, flea markets, or yard sales, and her repurposing often involved painting, cutting off parts, adding to, or turning an object upside down or on its side. Several of the rooms she created recall elements of her own life--people she loves, events that she remembers fondly, trips she has taken with her family, and stories her grandparents told her when she was young.
