Theme Days

Themed visits give students an opportunity to experience the museum in new ways. Activities begin at 9:45 a.m. and end at 2 p.m., but classes may arrive and depart anytime during that period. Reservations are required. Space is limited so register early! Students must be divided into groups of no more than five and each group must be accompanied throughout the day by an adult chaperon. 

Ask about availability for large groups on alternative days.

Math in Action Theme Day

Grades 1 through 4

February 16 and 17, 2012

Real-world math in a real fun setting gives students a chance to play with math skills they’ve worked on at school. Set in exhibits throughout the museum, activities are designed to offer a range of skill-level challenges that students can self select. Mini math notebooks will be used by students to show their work and continue problem solving back at school.

Fairy-Tale Fantasy Theme Day

Pre-K through Grade 2

March 1, 2, and 6, 2012

Students get the royal treatment as they make fairy-tale costumes and crafts for the Royal Ball! Students meet the Queen of Play, dance in the banquet hall with lords and ladies from the Queen’s court, play knights and dragons, and practice bow and arrow skills in Sherwood Forest. Students leave the museum happily ever after.

Kindergarten through Grade 4

April 25, 26, and 27, 2012

Real science meets science-fiction in this super-galactic extravaganza. Students enjoy observing, sketching, experimenting, and exploring among the museum’s collections and exhibits. Students visit activity stations to act out creative “space” dramatics; build their own science-fiction creatures; see live, out-of-this-world bugs; check out robotics and cool science gadgets; and more.

Spring in Motion Theme Day

Worms wiggle, bees buzz, and crickets creep! Students celebrate spring with a combination of poetry, music, crafts, and movement activities that delight and inspire.

Ride the wave toward summer at a “beach” party to celebrate the end of the school year. Enjoy “cool” crafts and “hot” games at this full day of super summer fun. Don’t forget your shades!.
