Spring—and bugs—are in the air!
Inspect live creepy crawlers up close during Buggy Bonanza at the National Museum of Play at The Strong® on Saturday, June 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Did you know that the largest tarantulas can grow to the size of a dinner plate? Meet a museum expert and learn other fascinating facts about tarantulas, hissing cockroaches, and scorpions, as well as various plants. Make a butterfly craft and say hello to Marti the Monarch, the museum’s strolling butterfly mascot.
Come face to face with more fascinating creatures in the museum’s indoor Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden®. Walk among 1,000 colorful, free-flying butterflies in a tropical rainforest environment. The garden also features a toucan, turtles, tortoises, and tiny Chinese button quail. (Note: Admission to the butterfly garden requires general museum admission fees plus the purchase of an individual, timed ticket: $2 for members, $4 for nonmembers, children younger than two free.)
Visit the museum’s outdoor Discovery Garden and try to find unique insects on your own. While there, play with a set of interactive wind chimes and check out several pieces of art by staff artist Craig Wilson, including a whimsical guy taking a bath (his head, toes, and one arm stick out of a tub spilling over with budding plants instead of bubbles).
All Buggy Bonanza activities (with the exception of Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden admission) are included with general museum admission fees.
