12936 objects currently online.

With more than half a million objects, Strong National Museum of Play holds the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of toys, games, dolls, electronic games, and other artifacts related to American play. This online database draws on the museum’s catalog records and allows you to easily browse or search a portion of the overall collection.

What will you find here? Each of the objects featured in Online Collections includes a documentary photograph and factual information that can range from basic to extensive, including the maker, material, title, place of origin, and date. For a growing proportion of objects, you’ll also find additional information about the object’s historical context or specific significance. Whenever you highlight an object and see the words Learn More, you’ll know that the object record includes further content beyond standard museum cataloging.

As you browse or search the Online Collections, please be aware that that this database represents only a small part of the museum’s vast holdings and that, if you’re planning to visit the museum, many of these objects are not presently on display.

Each month, hundreds of artifacts are introduced to the museum’s collection. Since curators are continually adding and upgrading records, you’ll want to check back often to see how this online database evolves. To make exploring our recent acquisitions easy, objects in Online Collections categories are organized so that the latest additions appear on the first results page.

Just as the Online Collections database is constantly expanding, the interface that allows you to explore those objects is continually being improved and upgraded. Our objective is to serve our users so, if you have a question or suggestion about the content or functionality of the Online Collections feature, please let us know at collections@museumofplay.org.
