Dear Judy,
Thank you for the kind words! I'm sure you'll meet Mike long before you encounter me at a tournament. It seems difficult to compete without seriously dedicating oneself to studying word lists. Off to play a little catch-up...

Terrific blog, Lauren! You really captured the magic of Scrabble. Excellent choice of photos too. I hope to meet both you and Mike at a tournament one day.

Ha—although it's clear that you're joking, you may be interested to know that this issue actually caused some controversy. When the third edition of the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (OSPD) was published with potentially offensive words omitted, the National Scrabble Association created the alternate Official Tournament and Club Word List (TWL or OWL), which included the purged words. Players in the United States, Canada, Israel, and Thailand currently use the second edition of the TWL in tournament and club play.

Enjoyed the blog. Can you explain why the 4 letter words I use when I play scrabble are never allowed?

Great work, Lauren! Very fun read, and all very true. I have had little hobbies in the past, but I think Scrabble is here to stay, because I know that no matter how hard I work, I won't ever quite master the game, and there will always be room for improvement.

Yes! That is the Yahoo! Games version. I enjoyed playing that with you. The nice thing about the Scrabble Facebook application and Lexulous is that I don't have to play in real-time. My opponent and I play moves over the span of a few days, whenever it's convenient. I look forward to opening my computer and discovering the many ways my brother has managed to destroy me.
