Making American Music
Adult Evening Series
at Strong National Museum of Play®


Enjoy an eclectic selection of American music at the Making American Music adult concert series at Strong National Museum of Play. Over the course of eight Wednesday evenings from September through May, you can hear big band tunes, popular songs from the forties and fifties, Broadway favorites, steelband music, folk, operetta, gospel, and jazz. All performances take place Wednesday evenings in Strong’s theater at 7:30 p.m.:

September 20, 2006: Big Band Swing—Dick Stacy and the Rhythm Aces Big Band put you “In the Mood” for a little swing with an evening of Big Band favorites featuring Jon Seiger on trumpet and vocals.

October 18, 2006: Remember the Ladies—Ann Mitchell Jazz Quartet presents musical performances from Rosemary Clooney, Patti Page, and other female vocalists who topped the charts in the forties and fifties.

November 15, 2006: A Night in the Caribbean—Alfred St. John’s Trinidad and Tobago Steelband plays calypso, classical, reggae, and pop songs.

January 17, 2007: Beautiful Dreamer—A Stephen Foster Sampler—Jim Kimball and Friends present a selection of Foster favorites.

February 14, 2007: Love Is Here to Stay—Pamela Kurau and Gary Palmer perform classical American songs of Gershwin, Arlen, Copeland, and Rodgers and Hart in honor of Valentine’s Day.

March 14, 2007: An Evening of Romantic Operetta—Songs from the golden age of operetta with Cecile Saine, Howard Spindler, and Eastman School of Music Opera Students.

April 18, 2007: Gospel’s Inspiration—From soulful spirituals to today’s exuberant gospel, St. Luke Voices of Tabernacle performs a history of gospel.

May 16, 2007: Rochester’s Native Sons—The Nostalgic Reunion Jazz Ensemble celebrates Rochester’s musical heritage with music of Alec Wilder, Cab Calloway, and Chuck Mangione.

Single Tickets: museum member $13; senior (age 62 and older) or student $14; nonmember $16.
Full Series Tickets: museum member $88; senior (age 62 and older) or student $96; nonmember $112.
Mini-series tickets: (for 4 to 7 concerts) museum member $12 per concert; senior (age 62 and older) or student $13 per concert; nonmember $15 per concert.

Bill Gray’s at the Skyliner Diner is open from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on concert evenings. The Everything for Play! Shop will be open until 7:30 p.m. Coffee and lidght refreshments are available for purchase during intermission. The museum’s facilities are wheelchair accessible.

General Admission fee plus $3.00 per person for members and nonmembers; Children younger than two free.
