Strong National Museum of Play®
to Host Poster Art Display and Lecture
During No Name-Calling Week January 22 through 28

Bullying takes many forms: physical (kicking, hitting, hair pulling), verbal (name calling, spreading gossip or rumors), and emotional (exclusionary behavior, manipulation). In the U.S., each day approximately 160,000 students stay Home | Plan A Visit | Things to Do & See | About Us | School Programs | Just For Kids | About Play | Membership | Press Room | Contact | Employment | Join Our E-mail List © 2007 - Strong National Museum of Play ® - All Rights Reservedfrom school due to bullying, according to The Community Task Force on Bullying Prevention.

The Community Task Force on Bullying Prevention is seeking to raise community awareness of this problem through Kids Preventing Bullying: A Poster Display on view at Strong National Museum of Play® during No Name-Calling Week from Monday, January 22 through Sunday, January 28. Fifty-two anti-bullying posters, garnered from submissions by children in grades K-12 attending schools and youth programs in Monroe County will be on display at Strong. The Community Task Force on Bullying Prevention will staff an information table during the entire week. The art display is included with general museum admission fees.

The Community Task Force on Bullying Prevention will also sponsor a complementary lecture for the general public, A Guide to Bullying For Parents, Teachers, and Other Concerned Adults, held at Strong National Museum of Play® on Wednesday, January 24, at 7:00 p.m. Kevin Jennings, founder and executive director of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, the organization that launched No Name-Calling Week, is the speaker. Jennings will focus on the extent of the name-calling problem in schools, the impact of bullying, and how to get engaged in combating this issue. The lecture is free to the public.

The Community Task Force on Bullying Prevention, a Rochester community group founded in 2002, includes parents, school districts, mental health professionals, community agencies, fire service, and law enforcement as members. The organization sponsors initiatives to engage the community to take action to prevent bullying.

Strong National Museum of Play®, located in downtown Rochester, New York, is the only museum in the world devoted to the study of play as it illuminates American popular culture.
