American Studies Association Conference

April 4 and 5, 2008


American Studies scholars from through the Middle Atlantic and Great Lakes regions and beyond will gather at Strong National Museum of Play on April 4 and 5, 2008, for a two-day conference titled “American Play: Sports, Games, Entertainment, and Fantasy in American Culture.”

The conference is sponsored by the Middle Atlantic American Studies Association and the Great Lakes American Studies Association.

At 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4, Gary Cross, Professor of American Studies at Pennsylvania State University, will deliver the keynote address titled “Streetcar Saturnalias, Family Fun, and Cool Rides: Changing Venues of Playful Crowds.” Cross’s talk is also open free of charge to the public.  A book signing will follow the lecture.
